ANCBuddy 2.2.0 supports Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones 2nd Gen on macOS. The app covers frequent desktop controls while leaving Gen 2 firmware, Cinema Mode, deep customization, and unsupported settings in the Bose app.
What works in ANCBuddy
With QC Ultra Headphones 2nd Gen, ANCBuddy provides:
- Quiet, Aware, and Immersion switching from the Mac menu bar
- Still and Motion when the connected headphones expose the setting
- battery and connection status
- active, connected, and remembered audio-source visibility
- switching to a remembered source
- starting and cancelling Bose pairing
- Mac-audio recovery when macOS exposes the Bose output
- optional track-aware AI Auto-EQ
- Launch at Login and built-in update checks
What is specific to Gen 2
Bose documents Cinema Mode as a Gen 2 feature for clearer dialogue and spatialized video. The current ANCBuddy release does not advertise Cinema Mode control. Enable it in the Bose app instead.
Bose also documents additional Gen 2 hardware and app capabilities. ANCBuddy does not claim to reproduce every control merely because the headphones support it; the Mac app decision page lists the exact public scope.
Set up the headphones on Mac
- Pair QC Ultra Headphones 2nd Gen in System Settings → Bluetooth.
- Start audio from the Mac and confirm the Bose output is selected.
- Open ANCBuddy from the menu bar.
- Switch a listening mode and confirm the headphones report the change.
- Expand Audio Sources to see the active source and other connected or remembered devices.
- Use the troubleshooting guide if audio and control states disagree.
Gen 1 versus Gen 2 inside ANCBuddy
Both headphone generations receive ANCBuddy's supported core workflow for modes, source visibility and switching, pairing, battery, status, and optional AI Auto-EQ. Cinema Mode is available on Gen 2 hardware according to Bose, but it remains outside the current ANCBuddy control claim.
For source details and Multipoint terminology, use the audio-source switching guide. For Still, Motion, and Cinema, use the Immersive Audio guide.
